COIN DRIVES! HOW THOSE EXTRA PENNIES CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE!
Coin drives are a great way to raise money! Our first coin drive was held in on October 23, 2009. The Coin Drive has becme an annual event here at United Way. It takes a lot of volunteers - folks to stand in the street and collect money - folks inside to count the money! The commaraderie of the volunteers is fantastic! Our volunteers come from our Board of Directors, members of the Community, and from those served by our agencies. We have steadily increased the amount collected at our first coin drive from $2,207.88 to $4,217.20 collected during our 2014 Coin Drive.
In 2015, President Tommy Haithcock decided we should have two coin drives - one in the spring and one in the fall! Our spring drive was on April 3rd. Our volunteeres faced quite a challenge because the Henderson Fire Department had been out at our same location for two days prior collecting for MS! In spite of that, we were able to collect a grand total of $3,803! The monies raised at the April coin drive were designated to help fund our United We Read - United We Succeed reading program!
Our Fall Kick-Off Coin Drive to be held on October 2nd! You, the public, are invited to volunteer to work with us collecting funds in the street or to help in the office counting those coins! If you don't have time to volunteer -- we hope you will stop by and drop your loose change (we also take that green, folding money) in our collection cannisters! You can find us on Dabney Drive - in front of the Central Fire Station, or Dabney Drive and Garnett Street!
